In late 2024 our Pigeon Creek Watershed Association had received approval from the Bentleyville Borough Council to conduct a live stake planting trial along Pigeon Creek in Bentleyville’s Richardson Park. On December 14, 2024, 77 tires were pulled out of Pigeon Creek in Carroll Township! Thanks to Allegheny CleanWays for providing staff and a dumpster, Pigeon Creek Watershed Association volunteers for braving 26º temperatures, and EQT Foundation for providing funds to cover expenses. In the Spring of 2024, Dr. David Argent and PennWest Cal students completed the first e-fishing survey of Pigeon Creek in recent memory. The Pigeon Creek Watershed Association, established in March 2024, initiated its first streambank restoration project. Collaborating with a property owner in Bentleyville, Pa. and the Washington County Conservation District, they addressed erosion through native plantings. Dr. David Argent and PennWest Cal Students Complete 2024 Electrofishing Survey Last year, a group from PennWest California made multiple attempts to conduct an electrofishing survey of Pigeon Creek. Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions and high water levels forced them to cancel each attempt.
